IATSE Local 289 is a union of professional stagehands that makes possible, entertainment in the Southern Finger Lakes (Elmira, Hornell, Watkins Glen, Ithaca, Corning, Cortland) region of New York State. We are the loaders who unpack the trucks in the dark of the pre–dawn morning, bringing the show into the venue. We are the riggers who hang thousands of pounds of scenery, sound and lighting equipment above and around the stage. We are the electricians who connect the power and install and operate the sophisticated lighting of a live country music or rock & roll show. We are the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees and Moving Picture Machine Technicians, Artists and Allied Crafts of the United States and Canada. We have worked closely with all professional performers in all aspects of entertainment.

The members of Local 289 have an aggregate total of over 130 years of knowledge and experience to draw from in the smooth execution of Load ins, Performances and Load outs. This expertise allows our Local to work effortlessly with professional road companies as well as any and all local groups that have used our talents in the past at several locations.

Local 289 has assisted Syracuse Stage and Rigging Company and BMI Supply in the installation of complete counter weight systems. Should you, in the future, need any help or suggestions with a theatre or venue related project, or if you are contemplating promoting productions of any type in any venue, we have the talent and professional experience to help you.

The work required to present high–quality, professional stage entertainment is dangerous. The effort of running large groups of laborers working in tight spaces, under time deadlines, at great heights, with heavy equipment powered by incredible amounts of electricity requires organization, knowledge, experience, and trust in order to ensure worker safety.
